Tân Cerdd x AfroWales: A Neo Soul Jam Rooted in Community and Creative Exchange
Tân Cerdd returns this April with a special Neo Soul Jam Night in collaboration with AfroWales, bringing together some of the most compelling Black Welsh artists and musicians for an evening centred on improvisation, collaboration and live musicianship.
At its core, the event is driven by a clear intention: to create space. This is a space where artists, bands and instrumentalists can come together to experiment in real time, push creative boundaries, and form new musical connections. It is equally a space for audiences to engage more deeply with the process of live music-making. Rather than remaining passive observers, attendees are invited to contribute to the atmosphere—helping shape a welcoming, informed and responsive environment grounded in Black music and culture.
The evening will feature standout performances from leading Black Welsh artists, showcasing the breadth and richness of talent across the scene. Alongside these sets, an open mic jam session will offer participants the opportunity to step forward and perform with both the featured artists and Tân Cerdd’s house band, AC Factor. This fluid exchange between established and emerging musicians is central to the ethos of the night, breaking down traditional boundaries between stage and audience while fostering a genuine sense of artistic community.
The collaboration with AfroWales reflects a shared commitment to platforming Black creativity in Wales. By strengthening networks and nurturing spaces for collaboration, the partnership goes beyond celebration—actively contributing to the development and sustainability of Black music within the Welsh cultural landscape.
In a time when independent and community-led arts initiatives are more vital than ever, Tân Cerdd’s Neo Soul Jam Night stands as a reminder of what can be achieved when creativity, inclusivity and intention come together in one room.
The event is held at Chapter Arts on Sunday 19th of April 6:30pm-8:30pm, to find out more click here
