Chasing Light: New Cardiff Art Exhibition Celebrates Welsh Landscapes and Creative Mentorship

Cardiff’s vibrant arts scene continues to thrive this summer with Chasing Light, a new art exhibition in Cardiff bringing together two local painters inspired by the beauty of the Welsh landscape. Taking place on Saturday 18 July from 5–8pm at Café Artiste in Llandaff North, this free exhibition offers visitors the chance to experience expressive, light-filled works in an intimate setting.

Cardiff-based artist Becky Hodgkin presents a collection of acrylic paintings that capture the mood and movement of the Welsh coastline and countryside. Her work is defined by bold colour and expressive brushwork, translating familiar views into something atmospheric and deeply personal. Balancing a full-time career in marketing within the cybersecurity sector, Becky paints during early mornings and evenings, a commitment that speaks to her dedication and passion for her craft.

The exhibition is a joint show with fellow Cardiff artist Izzy Rossiter, whose illustrative approach explores light and nature from a different perspective. While Becky’s work leans towards expressive landscape painting, Izzy’s pieces bring a softer, more detailed interpretation of the natural world, creating a thoughtful contrast between the two artists.

What makes Chasing Light particularly special is the story behind the collaboration. Izzy Rossiter was once Becky’s art teacher, having guided her through a painting class when she returned to art last summer. The pair stayed in touch, with Izzy becoming an important mentor. This exhibition is not only a showcase of their work, but also a reflection of the supportive and connected nature of the Cardiff art community.

Visitors searching for art exhibitions in Cardiff this July will find Chasing Light a welcoming and accessible event. Hosted at the much-loved Café Artiste in Llandaff North, the exhibition offers a relaxed environment where guests can engage directly with the artists and their work.

With free entry and an inspiring mix of contemporary Welsh art, Chasing Light is set to be a highlight for anyone interested in Cardiff’s creative scene, local artists, and modern landscape painting.
