🎄 Hannah McPake Leads Sherman Theatre’s 2025 Christmas Spectacular: Alice Returns to Wonderland

Sherman Theatre is diving back down the rabbit hole this festive season with Alice: Return to Wonderland — a brand-new, dreamlike adventure written and directed by Sherman favourite Hannah McPake. Running from 28 November 2025 to 3 January 2026, this magical reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass promises a wild ride for audiences aged 7 and up — and their grown-ups too.

🎭 A Christmas Classic Reborn

After dazzling audiences as Ebbie Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (the Sherman’s highest-grossing show to date), McPake returns to the helm with a cast of actor-musicians and a top-tier creative team. Expect whimsy, wonder, and a few surprises as grown-up Alice races through a surreal post-war Cardiff and into Wonderland to rescue her daughter Carys from the clutches of the fearsome Red Queen.

🃏 Old Friends, New Faces

Elian Mai West reprises her role as Alice from the Sherman’s 2018 production, joined by Mari Fflur as Carys, plus Caitlin Lavagna, Emily Ivana Hawkins, Oliver Wood, Joseph Tweedale, and newcomer Max James. And yes — Keiron Self is back for his 11th Sherman Christmas show!

🎶 Behind the Curtain

The show features original music by Lucy Rivers, with Barnaby Southgate as Musical Director. The creative team also includes Associate Director Alice Eklund, Designer Elin Steele, Sound Designer Sam Jones, and Lighting Designer Andy Pike — all seasoned Sherman collaborators.

💫 Pay What You Want Preview Performances On 28 & 29 November, audiences can experience the magic on a Pay What You Want basis — making theatre more accessible than ever.

🐸 Double the Festive Fun

Alongside Alice, Sherman Theatre and Theatr Cymru are co-producing The Frog Prince(English) and Biwti a Brogs (Welsh), a delightful show for younger audiences aged 3–6. These productions will run at the Sherman and tour across south Wales, continuing the theatre’s proud tradition of introducing generations of children to the joy of live performance.
