📝 Script Club Cardiff Packs Out Porter’s Once Again with a Night of Fresh New Writing
Cardiff’s grassroots writing collective, Script Club, has done it again — hosting its second sold-out scratch night at the ever-charming Porter’s in the city centre. The evening featured six original short plays on the theme of Memory, all penned by local playwrights and performed script-in-hand after just a few hours of rehearsal. Many of the creatives met for the first time that very day — proof that magic can happen on a tight schedule.
🎠A Community of Creatives
Since launching in early 2024, Script Club Cardiff has brought together over 30 creatives through its scratch nights — from first-time writers and emerging directors to seasoned artists keen to forge new connections. It’s a space where ideas spark, confidence grows, and collaboration thrives.
Performer Hannah Novello, who’s now a two-time Script Club alum, shared:
“Getting to be a part of another Script Club Cardiff scratch night was a blessing. It’s made me realise just how important having a community like this is, and has given me much more belief in myself.”
Newcomer Annie Holroyd added:
“An incredible experience I feel lucky to have had.”
🎤 A Morning with Daf James
The following day, Script Club hosted a free Q&A at ArtHole, Canton, with BAFTA-nominated writer Daf James (Lost Boys & Fairies). Daf generously shared insights from his career and offered heartfelt advice to emerging writers — a rare and inspiring opportunity for those looking to find their voice.
🌱 What’s Next?
Script Club continues to grow as a welcoming space for writers to connect, develop, and share work. Free monthly meet-ups take place on the first Sunday of each month at Corp Market, Canton — open to anyone curious about writing for stage or screen.
More scratch nights and Q&A sessions are on the horizon for the new year.
