CULTVR Lab announces free Open Day celebrating immersive arts and community

CULTVR Lab, the UK’s first dedicated immersive arts centre, will open its doors on Saturday 1 August 2026 for a free day of creativity, discovery and community as part of its landmark programme Catalyst 360°.

The Open Day invites visitors of all ages to explore CULTVR’s pioneering fulldome venue, take part in hands‑on creative workshops, experience interactive installations and enjoy live performances from local artists. The event forms part of CULTVR’s mission to make immersive storytelling accessible to everyone, particularly communities in Grangetown and across South Wales.

Programme Highlights

A diverse schedule of free activities will run throughout the afternoon, offering multiple entry points into immersive arts:

  • Collaborative Collage Workshop12pm–2pm Create a collective artwork that will later be transformed into an immersive dome showcase.

  • Mark Eaglen Interactive Showcase12pm–3pm Experience an interactive artwork inside the fulldome, exploring movement, light and digital expression.

  • Fulldome Film Screenings3pm Short 360° films from award‑winning studio 4Pi Productions, projected on Wales’ largest immersive screen.

  • Animation Workshop2pm–4pm Learn the fundamentals of animation and experiment with storytelling through movement.

  • Live Music by Sound Progression3pm–5pm Performances from emerging artists in the CULTVR garden.

  • Collage Workshop Dome Showcase4pm See the collaborative artwork reimagined inside the immersive dome.

Catalyst 360°

The Open Day sits within Catalyst 360°, CULTVR’s most ambitious programme to date, supported by the Arts Council of Wales. Following a global open call that attracted more than 300 applications, the programme includes:

  • Artist residencies

  • XR showcases

  • A community strand focused on accessibility and removing barriers to participation

Since opening in 2019, CULTVR Lab has become a leading centre for immersive media in the UK, supporting artists, fostering international collaboration and expanding opportunities for communities to engage with emerging creative technologies.
