A new community-led initiative is bringing an extraordinary cultural tradition to South Wales, as Citrus Arts Ltd announces the launch of Colla Pobl Taf (“People of the Taff”)the first collective in Wales dedicated to the art of human towers.

Inspired by the centuries-old Catalan practice known as Castells, Colla Pobl Taf introduces a striking form of collective performance that blends physical skill, trust, and community spirit. Rooted in collaboration, these human towers are built from the ground up—quite literally—requiring participants of all ages and abilities to work together in careful balance.

Based in Hopkinstown, the initiative reflects a growing cultural exchange between Wales and Catalonia, drawing on shared values of community, heritage, and creative expression. Rather than focusing on formal ties, the project celebrates the organic connections that can emerge through art—where traditions are reimagined and adapted within new local contexts.

Colla Pobl Taf is not only about spectacle; it is about participation. At its core lies an open invitation to the local community to come together, learn new skills, and take part in something both physically engaging and culturally rich. The act of building a human tower becomes a metaphor for community itself—each individual playing a vital role in supporting the whole.

By establishing Wales’ first colla, Citrus Arts Ltd offers a fresh and inclusive addition to the nation’s cultural landscape—one that quite literally reaches new heights while remaining firmly grounded in the spirit of togetherness.

Join the Build - Citrus Arts welcomes new members for Castells Pobl Taf.

With a strong emphasis on family and community, we welcome; young people, families, and adults of all ages. No prior experience is required to join the collective.
