An Evening of Music, Fiction and Fierce Feminism: Delphine Seddon in Conversation with Alison Sudol at Waterstones Cardiff
Waterstones Cardiff will host a compelling literary event on 25 June at 7pm, welcoming debut novelist and former music industry powerhouse Delphine Seddon for an in‑conversation with multidisciplinary artist Alison Sudol. Together, they’ll delve into Seddon’s blistering, feminist debut novel Darkening Song — a story already generating industry buzz and set for adaptation as a major TV series.
A Novel Where Power, Pain and Hope Collide
Described as DAISY JONES & THE SIX meets EUPHORIA, Darkening Song follows two young women bound together by ambition, trauma and the brutal machinery of the music industry.
At its heart are:
a teen star failed by the industry that made her an idol
her driven manager, forced to choose between loyalty and power
It’s a story steeped in friendship, betrayal, love and the long shadows cast by past wounds. Yet Seddon insists the novel is ultimately about hope — and the unexpected ways dreams can reshape themselves.
Adding to the excitement, the book will feature:
A major TV adaptation in development
An original soundtrack created entirely by an all‑female team
Delphine Seddon: A Voice Forged in the Music Industry
Seddon brings two decades of real‑world experience to her fiction. Her career spans:
Talent lawyer during the Myspace boom and rise of Lily Allen
Head of Business Affairs at Warner Brothers Records, working with Dua Lipa, Liam Gallagher, Foals, Royal Blood and Enya
Artist manager
COO at September, home to Glass Animals, Little Simz and Adele
Her writing — contemporary, female‑driven, emotionally incisive — is shaped by years spent navigating the pressures, politics and personalities of the music world.
Alison Sudol: An Artist Across Mediums
Sudol, who will lead the conversation, is an artist whose career spans music, film and television. Her work includes:
Seven albums and EPs
Roles in Transparent and all three Fantastic Beasts films
Appearances on major soundtracks
Tours across North America and Europe, both solo and alongside artists such as Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile
Her music leans into vulnerability, nature, and emotional honesty — themes that resonate deeply with Darkening Song. Now based in Wales with her partner and two young children, Sudol brings a thoughtful, empathetic presence to every creative space she enters.
