Jesus Christ Superstar Announces Major UK Tour — Sam Ryder to Lead as Jesus, Cardiff Dates Confirmed

A fresh wave of excitement is sweeping through UK theatre today as Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals confirms that Jesus Christ Superstar will embark on a major UK tour in 2027. The announcement follows the show’s hugely successful West End engagements at The London Palladium (running until 5 September 2026) and Theatre Royal Drury Lane (16 October 2026 – 9 January 2027).

For Welsh audiences, the headline is clear: the production will arrive at Wales Millennium Centre from 2–13 March 2027, bringing Sam Ryder’s hotly anticipated portrayal of Jesus to Cardiff for the very first time.

A Landmark Revival with a Star at Its Centre

Sam Ryder — the chart-topping vocalist and Eurovision sensation — steps into the iconic role of Jesus, marking his first UK tour with the production. His casting has already generated enormous buzz, with early West End audiences praising the power and emotional intensity of his performance.

Producer Michael Harrison said the reaction to the Palladium opening confirmed the production’s extraordinary impact:

“The tremendous buzz generated by Saturday night’s first performance underlines just how special this iconic musical remains… we are thrilled that audiences across the country will now have the opportunity to experience Tim Sheader’s visionary staging, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary score, and Sam Ryder’s electrifying performance.”

Full casting will be announced in due course.

This tour reunites the award-winning creative team behind the celebrated 2016 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production — a staging that went on to become a global phenomenon.
