Nature, Glass and Quiet Wonder: ‘Moss for a Bed’ Opens in North Wales This Summer
This summer, a new exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre invites visitors to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the quiet beauty of the natural world.
Opening on 4 July and running until 20 September 2026, Moss for a Bed is a striking solo exhibition by acclaimed Welsh artist Verity Pulford—bringing together her signature ethereal glasswork alongside new porcelain pieces inspired by the intricate forms and rhythms of nature.
Finding magic in the microscopic
Pulford’s work is rooted in a deep fascination with the often-overlooked details of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from mosses, lichens, fungi and marine life, her pieces blur the boundaries between realism and imagination.
The result is a series of delicate, almost otherworldly forms—objects that feel as though they’ve grown rather than been made.
Her practice explores not just how nature looks, but how it feels. Through both observation and the act of making, Pulford creates work that reflects a sense of calm, safety and stillness—offering viewers a moment of pause in an otherwise busy world.
An artist at the height of her craft
Based in North Wales, Pulford has built an impressive reputation both nationally and internationally. In 2025, she was awarded the Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales—one of the country’s highest artistic honours.
Her work has been exhibited widely, including at major events such as Collect and the British Glass Biennale, and is held in both private and public collections. A recipient of multiple grants from Arts Council of Wales, she has also undertaken prestigious residencies, including at Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle.
Alongside her gallery work, Pulford has contributed to healthcare environments across the UK, bringing her distinctive, nature-inspired forms into spaces designed for care and recovery.
A space to explore and reflect
Moss for a Bed promises more than just a visual experience. With talks and an accompanying educational programme planned throughout the exhibition’s run, visitors will have the opportunity to engage more deeply with Pulford’s process and ideas.
Set within the award-winning surroundings of Ruthin Craft Centre, the exhibition offers a perfect day out—combining contemporary craft with the tranquillity of North Wales.
