Indie Music Monthly: March Edition

Here’s Harry’s Rundown on Indie Music to sink your teeth into this March!

The Socials – Figure it out

This new single from Newport based band The Socials is brilliant. The grime style vocals, matched with the catchy riff, will make this song stick in your head in the best way. The chorus alone is fantastic, but I love the message of the song, it follows the stress of trying to find direction and quite literally ‘Figure it out’ while there are so many other priorities.

This is another tune that has an excellent music video so do go and check that out. They also have a BTS video of them filming that video and it looked like a great time.

South Wales have had some amazing tunes come out of Newport and this is one of them.

SJ Hill - Spell on me

‘She’s Jekyll and she’s Hyde’ really sums up the emotions of this song, along with the soul vocals you can really feel the power behind the creation of this song.

To me the song discusses the complexity of a relationship and weighing up the pros and cons of their situation. It explores the dependency that is developed within a relationship and

I’m obsessed with the breakdown of melody at 1:45 it really shows the talent SJ Hill has, showing their range of not only vocals but the clear emotion behind this song.

Kick Things – Bury it

Heavy guitar, strong vocals, I really like this one. I’ve mentioned (in the last article) how some songs really take me back to going into Clwb and finding an amazing artist and this feels like one of those bands, I can see them selling out Clwb and putting on an amazing gig.

This song is a part of their EP that came out on Friday 13th Feb and I cannot urge you enough to go and listen to that EP. The effort and support that has gone into creating it is a real statement to the passion this band have in creating music.

Also, they will be playing at ‘Immersed’ in March, go and see them!

Xempa – Mrs Magnificent

I’m sure you have noticed that I obviously love indie/rock but I also absolutely love songs like this. I came across Xempa a few months ago and instantly fell in love with their music, the vibe, the aesthetic everything is on point with their tunes, and this new track is class.

I really like the chill vibe and the contradictory complex piano riffs, it sounds amazing, and the more you listen to it the more you pick up on these nuances. The artwork for the track is great as well and really matches the tune.

I cannot wait for the sun to come back out and have this tune blasting.

P.S. watch their music video for ‘hold me back’.
