Aprils; Indie Music Playlist
The sun is creeping out and the tunes from Wales are coming thick and fast, we have a few new tunes for you this time, but also a throwback to an amazing band that I’m hoping will have a new release soon…
Half Happy – Bloom
Bloom was released as part of their debut EP ‘Conversation killer’ and it is a masterpiece. This tune from 2024 has been one I always go back to, the melody is so addictive and combined with the vocals this song will get you hooked on Half Happy. They have some really great videos on their socials that show the recoding process for that EP and it’s fantastic to see the love and passion that went into making it.
The band recently (22/03/2026) supported McFly in the Depot and they were fantastic to see live they really brought the energy to that stage, if you have the chance to see them live go and do it!
I have my fingers crossed for a new release form the band in 26’
Bendricks – Rock ‘N’ Roll Suite
Indie Rock N Roll is alive and kicking. This newest release form Bendricks encapsulates Wales’ indie rock scene perfectly. I love this type of music it really takes me back to some of the bands I used to go and see in Clwb Ifor Bach like, The Carolines, The pitchforks etc. And Bendricks are a new addition to the incredible bands that are coming out of Wales.
This new addition to their catalogue is catchy anthemic song that I have had on repeat a lot recently. The song is about tearing down these pop tunes that are rising in popularity and portraying these perfect lives. This song breaks that boundary and really brings back that 2000’s garage rock n roll feel and more importantly… the lifestyle. The music video sums this up as well, it’s simple fun and effective!
The band are going to be playing ‘In It Together festival’ very soon and I’m sure they are going to have a blast; The band also features on The Feeling ‘Big in 2026’ album which is a massive achievement and goes toward a great cause!
LEMFRECK – TEAL
New single from LEMFRECK is everything I hoped for, just I time for summer as well I can see the sun beating down this blasting, it is a standout tune. I really like the bassy melody on this song the way it flows as well dipping in and out of a slower calm vibe and then letting the drums crash back in really make this tune. LEMFRECK was the winner of the Welsh music prize in 2024, and you can see why.
I also really love the creativity from LEMFRECK not just on this song, but all their output is very creative and unique so do go and check out the music video for this song and their other work.
It reminds me of a song I found ages ago called ‘Visible Walls’ by Kassa Overall
The Socials – Mummy
They have done it again; they were on last months article and in that time, they have released another banger. The meaning of the song, again down to the listener, but really makes me think, the song explores that feeling of not wanting to do that 9-5 office work that doesn’t really matter to you and have a lifestyle that you want or are more interested in. However, they also explore the realities of doing this in the modern world and how hard it is to do exactly what you want to do in life.
The song is a direct call to ‘Mummy’ and I find this interesting as there is always that lingering question or piece of advice asking ‘is this really what I have to do to get by?’
As usual they have a great music video for this song you can see they love making music, and creating the music videos behind the tunes as well.
