Debbie McGee Joins GREASE The Musical for Cardiff Run at Wales Millennium Centre

Debbie McGee is joining the cast of the new UK tour of GREASE The Musical, which arrives at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from 3 to 8 May 2027.

The announcement comes as producer Colin Ingram prepares to take this new production of the much-loved musical on tour across the UK, with McGee set to play Miss Lynch.

For Welsh audiences, the Cardiff dates offer the chance to see the new touring production of one of musical theatre's most recognisable titles, complete with a fresh young cast and a familiar soundtrack packed with some of the genre's biggest hits.

Debbie McGee joins the cast of GREASE

McGee brings a long career across dance, television, radio, theatre and magic to the role of Miss Lynch.

Having trained at the Royal Ballet School, she began her professional career as a dancer, performing with The Second Generation and appearing alongside artists including ABBA and Chris de Burgh. She later became widely known through her work with Paul Daniels, first appearing as a dancer on The Paul Daniels Summer Show before becoming his assistant on the BBC's The Paul Daniels Magic Show.

Her career has continued to span a remarkably broad range of entertainment. In 1991, McGee became one of the first female magicians to join The Magic Circle. She was later awarded the organisation's Maskelyne Award for outstanding services to British magic and now serves as its Honorary Vice President.

Away from television and magic, McGee has also maintained strong connections with the performing arts. She established the touring ballet company Ballet Imaginaire in the early 2000s, while later becoming a familiar voice on BBC Radio Berkshire, where she presented her own Sunday programme for twelve years.

A new generation of audiences may also remember McGee from Strictly Come Dancing. She reached the final of the 2017 series, becoming the oldest celebrity contestant to do so at the time, and achieved an early perfect score of 40. She subsequently appeared on the Strictly Arena Tour and won the 2019 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special.

McGee has also appeared on programmes including Countdown, Richard Osman's House of Games, The Jeremy Vine Show, Loose Women, The Weakest Link, Celebrity Mastermind and The Wheel.

The role in GREASE comes during a particularly significant period in McGee's career, with 2026 marking her 50th year in showbusiness. The milestone also coincides with the release of her autobiography, A Magical Life.

A new production of a musical theatre classic

This new production of GREASE The Musical is directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Arlene Phillips.

Based on the original book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the musical follows Danny and Sandy after their summer romance takes an unexpected turn when Sandy arrives at Rydell High for her senior year.

The story brings together teenage romance, friendship, school life and the pressures of fitting in, all set against the backdrop of 1950s America.

Of course, much of GREASE's enduring popularity comes from its soundtrack. The production features some of the musical's best-known songs, including Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin', Hopelessly Devoted to You and You're the One That I Want.

The new UK tour promises to bring a fresh energy to the familiar story, with a young cast taking on the iconic characters and bringing their own vitality and enthusiasm to the production.

The creative team also includes designer Colin Richmond, musical supervisor and orchestrator Sarah Travis, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designers Tom Marshall and Richard Brooker, and casting director David Grindrod CDG.

GREASE The Musical will run at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from Monday 3 to Saturday 8 May 2027.

The production is presented by Colin Ingram for InTheatre Productions and Curve.
