Villains Take Centre Stage: Jai McDowall Joins I Screamed a Scream at Wales Millennium Centre

This autumn, the Wales Millennium Centre will echo with sinister laughter and spine-tingling harmonies as I Screamed a Scream – A Villains Cabaret makes its devilishly delightful debut. Just in time for Halloween, this twisted musical celebration of stage and screen’s most iconic baddies promises an evening of theatrical thrills—and a few chills.

Headlining the cast is none other than Jai McDowall, winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2011, whose powerhouse vocals bring a haunting edge to the show’s villainous repertoire. Joining him is rising musical theatre star Jess Lim, known for her roles in Dear Evan Hansen and Be More Chill, and hosting the evening is James Edge, founder of West End Best Friend and the wickedly witty mind behind the production.

Presented by West End Best Friend, I Screamed a Scream is a cabaret concert that revels in the dark side of musical theatre. From the melodramatic menace of Disney’s most dastardly tunes to lesser-known villainous gems, the show is a curated gallery of “black-hearted bops” performed by some of the industry’s most frighteningly talented voices.

Critics have already sung its praises:

  • “Exactly what a cabaret should be.” ★★★★★ – Theatre & Tonic

  • “Hair-raising hilarity and happiness.” ★★★★★ – Reviews Hub

  • “No better way to spend Halloween.” ★★★★ – All That Dazzles

With musical direction by Gabrielle Ball, lighting design by Hannah Finch, and artwork from Ghostlight Studios, the production is as visually captivating as it is vocally thrilling. Associate Producer Emily Susanne Lloyd and Marketing Director Liam Alexandru round out the creative team, ensuring every detail is devilishly on point.

Whether you're a musical theatre aficionado or simply love a good villain, I Screamed a Scream offers a night of camp, chaos, and cabaret that’s bound to leave audiences howling for more.
